Figures
There are two main figures - Billy Blastoff and Robbie Robot - both with original 1968/69 version and updates in 1970. Each has the date stamped on the backpack cover. In the original 1968 versions both have a rounded backpack with the switch on the back. In 1970 both were given a square backpack with the switch now on the side. Both also had the battery direction switched. Billy was completely overhauled to give him more of a NASA look due to the moon landing in 1969 and also made to walk like Robbie. There are some other subtle differences in the Robbie bodies that I have noticed as well. In the 1970 version at the screw in Robbie's neck there is now a slight channel on the chest for the screw and the rivets on the chest are slightly bigger. Sadly, Billy doesn't have a robot friend in his other endeavors - just him. All of these Billy and Robbie figures can power all of their vehicles with the exception of the Scuba Scout which is an entirely different drive mechanism. The only odd thing I've found is that the Robbie with his antenna spinning does not fit inside the Space Saucer with the bubble attached. Space Billy - the 1970 version - walks and so does Snowmobile and the Spanish "Constructor" Billy. Beyond that, the rest do not walk. Snowmobile Billy is the only figure without the accessory jack.
