The introduction of Billy Blastoff in the US with the Space Scout set one year before the moon landing established the platform for all sets to follow. The format was to include several vehicles to show off the one set of batteries runs all vehicles feature and include both lighted and unlighted accessories. Even at the start with the vehicles being simple stop and go drivers the variety is appealing and there's something pretty classic about the up-leaning purposely wonky walking Lunar Crawler.
Notice the early variant box cover with the white stripe and no compoent labels. I've only seen one of these come up for sale.
Scalecraft distributed the Space Scout set in the UK. The box cover is a standard US box with a Scalecraft sticker applied. I don't believe all of the Space Scout sets sold in the UK were sold through Scalecraft.
